Top Fashion Apps

Last week I was talking with a friend, who told me to look at the Very.com ap (Very Catalogue). Whilst perusing through the app I started thinking what other app were available and how useful were they.

I’m an avid Internet shopper, but shopping via an app is a relatively new concept for me. However, many retailers are becoming as savvy in the app world as they are on the high street. They also provide a great new source of information for fashion lovers. So, after some research I have put together a list of some of the best apps I’ve found. It’s a short list (I know, I’m surprised too – after all I am a notorious waffler), and by no means is everything covered, so I’d love to hear what your faves are and help others and myself discover some of the best.

Right, so firstly the Very.com app – Very Catalogue for iPhone. Although reviews are mixed, it is worth noting that it is still relatively new and has already had a few tweaks, making the functionality of it more fluid.

What’s right about it?
Well, for a start it’s FREE! It also looks great -it’s bright, colourful and, most importantly, is simple to use. It has three options (Catalogues, My Account and Go Shopping), the best of which is Catalogues. This section allows you to pick from the whole range of catalogues and season-specific catalogues to shop with your favourite brands.

What’s wrong with it?
Whilst there is nothing specifically wrong with this app, some reviewers feel like the shopping section, which takes you to the website, is hard to use on an iPhone when compared to just using a laptop. However, like I said this app is in its infancy and can only get better, so watch this space!

Next on the list is River Island’s app for iPhone.

What’s right with it?
This app looks great when you first access it. It’s so simple to use and I love the heart-shaped like button, which allows you to save the outfits you like and add them to your basket or wish list. I’m also a big fan of the ‘Wear with’ function which shows you what to wear your item of clothing with. I had a look at a gorgeous bodycon midi dress and was shown toe capped heels and a necklace with spike detail to channel an edgy look…thanks River Island!

What’s wrong with it?
Whilst the homepage looks great and is simple to use, I wish the section headers were not displayed in a dull grey sepia background – a small gripe I know, but it does mar the otherwise gorgeous aesthetics of this great app.

OK, moving away from the high street and straight off the runway, the next app is something pretty spectacular…Style.com for iPhone.

What’s right with it?
Where do I start? For anyone who loves fashion this is the app for you. It’s screams chic and includes coverage of major fashion shows, style videos, the look of the day and much more to give you a sneak preview of what the top trends will be next season! It’s easy to navigate around, looks as stylish as an Armani model and loads videos quickly.

What’s wrong with it?
To put it bluntly, absolutely nothing! Oh, unless you don’t like anything FREE. That’s right, you can get all of the above and more and not have to pay a penny, just wait 30 seconds for it to download!

Now for something a little different. Pose for iPhone is an app that allows users to share what they’re wearing with other users. It’s a more social and everyday app for all of us who like seeing what trends others are wearing and how they’re wearing it.

What’s right with it?
This app looks great and is a fantastically simple way to share fashion ideas and trends with users from all over the world. You can like what people are wearing, ask for advice and give others your advice. And it’s FREE, which is great for us facing the January pinch!

What’s wrong with it?
It’s just had a redesign, which is a great improvement to the look and feel of the app. However, some people may not like having to create an account and uploading their own photos. Although, you can just use the app for advice, but the more photos you have the more likely you are to be noticed by others who will follow you.

Lastly is an awesome app for the fashion conscious – Fashion Kaleidoscope – described as a combination of Shopstyle and Pinterest.

What’s right about it?
This app has been highly recommended by The Guardian and LA Times. It shows images of people – most look like models – from around the world and allows you to simply shop their look. It’s a sleek design and extremely easy to use. Oh, and of course, it’s FREE!

What’s wrong with it?
Unfortunately a lot of the clothes it allows you to shop are quite expensive, but it’s a great way to get fashion ideas and keep on top of trends.
