Nestled in the heart of Brighton, the Hippy Clothing Company boasts some of the UK’s most colourful, boho and ethnic pieces you’ll find. Sourcing creative clothing from overseas and home-grown suppliers fairly they’re a cool, urban delight that’s been around since the sixties!
Although a fan of bright colours, I’m not very hippy in nature it has to be said. However I chose the Daisy Flower vest dress to try and tease out my inner boho babe. I wore it to dinner, the office and to the pub last night to watch Columbia Vs Uruguay. I received loads of complements and felt great!
The fit of this vest dress was perfect. Jersey fabric is great at contouring your curves without being overly clingy. The fabric was soft and lightweight and looked unbelievable (if I do say so myself), skimming my shape to show off a narrow waist and fuller hips.
I love the yellow of the daisy petals against the jet black backdrop – it creates a statement appeal that maintains it’s sunny, summer vibe despite being 70% dark fabric. What’s more is the semi-sheer lace detail to the back. It turns this dress from a daytime longline vest into a sultry evening piece for a truly versatile pick.
Just to be on the safe side I washed this dress before writing this review on it just to make sure that its as good as I’m saying it is and…it is that good! The vibrant yellow dye wasn’t ran into by the black – I didn’t even have to do a fancy pants wash with colour protectors etc, I simply turned it inside out, popped it in at 30 degrees and hung it out on the line to dry naturally. It has kept it’s shape (a decent amount of elastane for a generous stretch), colour and lace detail!
OK so as you can probably tell I love this dress! The fit is gorgeous and makes me feel like a million dollars, while the stark colour contrast is bold and beautiful (oh, and my fave colour is yellow which obviously adds some points). I adore the casual style of the front contrasted with the sultry, after dark style of the vintage-inspired lace back. It adds to this dress’ versatility.
Overall I’d give this dress an 8
Next up from this Brighton based clothing and accessories company is this Obsidian Heart Necklace. It’s smooth, sleek black stone it shaped into a heart and hung delicately from woven black thread. It’s designed to be versatile – worn on dinner dates as well as to festivals. However I’ve been wearing it around the office, at one of my favourite bars in Liverpool as well as to yoga (it’s so pretty I have to take it off at the very last minute)!
Did you know?
- The obsidian stone apparently protects the wearer and keeps them secure…I’ve definitely felt more positive since wearing it and even wear it to bed where I’ve been having some great sleeps considering I have quite noisy neighbours!
- It’s made from 100% natural volcanic stone, a super-heated lava in the depths of the earth!
I love this easy-to-wear necklace and would give it a 9 in terms of wearability, versatility and understated style.
So, whether you’re a lover of Harem pants, rainbow colours and tie dye I’d definitely recommend taking a peek at what this fashion loving hippy store has to offer (oh and they also do homewares too), so what are you waiting for? x
