AW15 sees some of Spring Summer’s trends carried through and Upholstered Opulence takes the loud, vibrant upholstery looks of summer and reworks them into something more modern, in your face and downright opulent!
Think eclectic prints, vibrant colour palettes and silky, Orient-inspired fabrics – it’s pure luxury at your fingertips. From Burberry Porsum’s and Louis Vuitton’s jacquard textures to Erdem’s sweet-like foils, each designer told their own story on the runways and really played with colour and patterns making this a bold trend for the traditional dark and moody season.
Erdem stuck to pretty florals and feminine silhouettes in a beautiful soft, Eastern silk for that luxe foil appeal with added texture, teaming their creations with leather knee boots and socks to finish their looks with a little edge.
While Marques Almeida went out there, all out meltdown clashing colours, prints and textures, adding jaggered hemlines too for added attitude and chaos. Once deemed as the nineties girl, the MA muse now turns to the likes of Christian Lacroix for inspiration – which I think comes through in colourful, jacquard waves.
While Osman chose feminine prints that’s take us from summer into autumn, choosing black-dominated colour palettes to move their look through to winter. Maintaining the off-centre hems and retro prints of other designers they truly represent the up-market, modern upholstered look.
I’d definitely dive straight into one of Erdem’s stunning silk dresses, but don’t think I could face the chaos that is Marques Almeida. As for Osman, I think I could take their prints and wear them in scarf form or separates x
