I’ve Been Nominated For The Liebster Award!

Liebster award

First up, a huge thank you to Life Without My Wellies who gave me the nomination in the first place! I love her blog, everything from the artistic imagery to her written word has me hooked and her laid back nature is definitely something to aspire to!

Secondly, when I first got the email, I have to admit I saw “You’ve been nominated” and “click on this link” and, maybe because it was a bit of a pessimistic Wednesday, my thoughts immediately went to spam or scam. So imagine how I felt when I Googled the Liebster Award and found out what a lovely idea and community it is.

The Liebster Award is an award that helps discover and recognise new blogs with less than a 1,000 followers so they can be shared and read by many others. Sounds fantastic so far. Well it gets better. Imagine this award as a chain letter. If you choose to accept it, there are a few things you must do first, one of which is to pass it on, or pay it forward as some bloggers are referring to it, building the community and sharing more and more blogs. I for one absolutely love this idea!

So, if you accept it (and I whole heartedly am) you need to do the following…

  • Thank the person who nominated you with a link to their blog
  • Copy and paste the award onto your blog
  • Answer the questions that the blogger who nominated you provided
  • Nominate 5 bloggers that you think are amazing
  • Ask them 10 questions of your own
  • Let them know they have been nominated

So here are Gemma’s 10 questions to those she nominated and, of course, my answers:

  1. Why did you start your blog?

Towards the end of my previous role I really wasn’t enjoying it. I felt used, under appreciated and completely non-creative. So I decided to get my CV out there and start a blog that prospective employers could read and find out a little more about my writing style and interests.

It originally started out as imakemyownfashion.com focussing on clothing, footwear and beauty and, more recently, it has transformed into a more lifestyle blog with an aim to mould it into more of a diary.

  1. What’s your favourite blog post? (Please post link)

What A Load Of Crop has to be one of my earliest posts and involves my bestie, who has an outrageous obsession with crop tops. They still continue to have a place in most girl’s wardrobes, but a few years ago they were everything and Sarah kindly allowed me to take some pics of her in her faves on a chilly, overcast spring afternoon…filters needed 100% to make it look sunny!

It remains one of the highest viewed posts and had a lot of support from friends and, of course, it includes a girl who I’ve known for over 20 years!

  1. Who inspires you?

My wonderful friend Sara has always been an inspiration, ever since I met her in that previous job I mentioned above. She has so much drive and ambition and really goes for what she wants. She’s a great role model for anyone looking to go it alone as a freelancer and has recently, after years of deliberating, set up her own company, Silverleaf Designs.

I wish her all the best and know she’ll exceed and then some!

  1. What’s your favourite meal?

This question is so hard as I love food! However, over the last several years I’ve really started to love Thai food and adore spices and flavours from ginger and garlic to chilli and lemongrass. I’ve bought several cookbooks and have tried quite a few of the recipes, I just need my other half to start loving salmon (absolute fave fish) and we’re all set!

  1. What’s your favourite film?

I always struggle with favourite questions, as there’s always a list that’s in no particular order. However, I do love quite dark, mysterious films and they’re usually independent. I’ve enjoyed watching Richard Ayoade’s pieces, especially The Double.

More mainstream film loves in recent memory include The Revenant – I thought it was gritty, tense from the very beginning and beautifully shot – not to mention DiCaprio at his best, even breaking the fourth wall and all that! And I was engrossed throughout Mad Max – the noise around the cinema literally rumbled beneath my feet, it was incredible.

  1. What’s your favourite TV show?

It’s very much a golden oldie, but I’m obsessed with Frasier. I used to hate it as a youngster, settling in on a Friday night to watch Friends, other American sitcoms and then Frasier, which used to see me lose all interest and opt for bed (or endure it so I could sneakily watch South Park afterwards).

However, now I absolutely love the series and re-watch them tirelessly. It’s well written and incredibly witty, it really perks me up!

  1. Describe yourself in 3 words

      Relaxed. Passionate. A juxtaposition.

  1. What’s your favourite season & why?

I love autumn, probably because it’s the season I was born in. The golden, red and burnt orange hues are beautiful and I love the weather – warm with a little touch of crispness. Not to mention Halloween and Bonfire Night take place too!

  1. Are you more of a sweet or savoury kind of person?

Definitely sweet. I’ve always had a sweet tooth and need to follow up anything savoury with something sweeter – I was in my element throughout Easter! Even just a little sugar in my tea will put a smile on my face, especially if I’m not expecting it – sometimes the other half will pop a sugar in my cuppa and say I deserve it after a trip to the gym…it’s honestly one of my favourite things!

  1. What’s your favourite item of clothing?

Do shoes count? I have a lovely collection of footwear with my absolute favourites being my Orla Kiely Mary Jane’s – so, so retro!

No? Well then in that case I’d say probably a Ted Baker dress I bought a couple of years ago in a beautiful cornflower blue hue. It’s reversible so the button up front and delicate lace can be switched to the back and it reminds me of so many happy memories, from enjoying the Epsom Derby with Rob to celebrating my friend Sara’s wedding!

So, now I guess it’s my turn. I nominate:

  • Eccentric OwlKristina
  • Pinks CharmingBecky
  • Wonderful WolfDebbie
  • The Fashion Huntress – Known only as the Fashion Huntress!
  • The Adorned Claw Ruth

And the questions for my 10 nominated bloggers:

  1. Why did you start up your blog?
  2. If you could be a nail varnish colour what would you be?
  3. What is your favourite song?
  4. What’s next for your blog?
  5. If you could host a dinner party with any three guests, who would you pick and why?
  6. What is your favourite purchase?
  7. Where did you find this favourite purchase?
  8. Who is your inspiration?
  9. If you could live a day in someone else’s shoes, whose would you pick?
  10. What is your favourite blog post and why? (Please post the link)

This has been amazing fun. Thanks once again to Gemma for the nomination and I hope my nominees will love doing this as much as I have. I love their blogs and regularly turn to them for some nail art inspo or as a way to unwind after a day in the office.

Love Laura x
